Baking soda is great for a lot of things, one of which is cleaning. Read on to learn the top ways to clean with baking soda.
There’s one thing in everyone’s pantry right now that can clean our pans, whiten our whites, and wash hair all at the same time.
Do you know what it is yet? It’s baking soda and it’s eco-friendly to boot! A truly magical powder for all uses.
Interested in how I use it but don’t know how to clean with baking soda? I’ll teach you below.
1. Charred Pans and Caked on Food
I cooked the dinner for a little bit too long, and the bottom of the pan is scorched. Sometimes, I’m lucky and I can still salvage the meal, and just not serve the bottom bits.
It happens to all of us. But then I’m left with a pan with caked on food and black spots that you can’t scrub off, no matter what you do.
I even left the pan soaking in water and soap overnight, but that didn’t help. But you know what will?
Baking soda. Add about a fourth cup baking soda to the water/soap soaking mixture. Leave it overnight and then dump it out in the morning.
Use whatever baking soda settled on the bottom as a powder to help scrub, using a sponge.
The baking soda will have loosened everything and if it doesn’t work on the first try, just leave it and let it soak again.
2. Your Hair
Did you know that you can wash your hair with baking soda? It’s true. No more slippery bottles of shampoo in the shower that fall on your toe.
Or that leave a sticky mess of spilled shampoo down the side of the tub.
To wash hair with baking soda, put about three tablespoons in a bottle of warm water. Shake it up until it’s mostly dissolved.
Then pour it over hair and rub the mixture onto the scalp. Now there’s clean hair and less product buildup.
Plus, the baking soda is good for the drain, as it washes out. No one likes cleaning a clogged drain, not even me!
3. Color Booster in Laundry
Tired of buying those big tubs of Oxyclean? Then stop. All we really need is some baking soda. A fourth cup or a half cup, for really big loads.
Throw the powder in with the clothes and it’ll boost colors and whiten whites. I’ll even put a little baking soda and water over stains before I wash them. It works well on grease, as the powder can draw the grease up and out.
4. Mattress Cleaner
You know what you never think about cleaning? The mattress! But by the end of its life, it has something like ten pounds of dead skin cells and dust inside it.
That’s really gross. So cleaning it every so often is a must-do. All I do is sprinkle baking soda over the top of the mattress, let it sit for half an hour, then vacuum it up.
The baking soda will bond to the dust and dead skin cells (at least those near the surface) and the vacuum will suck them off your bed.
